Head Coach | 12 APEX
Jodi Gilbert will lead 12 APEX this season, bringing NCAA Division I playing experience, years of coaching experience, and a passion for developing young athletes to Arizona Legacy. She believes the most important years in an athlete's volleyball journey are the first ones, where confidence, proper technique, and a love for the game are built.
A former player at both New Mexico State University and the University of Arizona, Jodi competed at the NCAA Division I level before transitioning into coaching. Her experience as both a player and coach has given her a deep understanding of long-term athlete development and the importance of building strong fundamentals from the very beginning.
Before becoming the Head Coach of 12 APEX, Jodi directed Arizona Legacy's Legacy Lab, where she worked closely with the club's youngest athletes, introducing them to the game while developing proper movement patterns, ball control, body mechanics, and volleyball fundamentals. Her ability to teach the game in a patient, encouraging, and structured way has made her one of Arizona Legacy's most trusted developmental coaches.
Jodi has also coached at Scottsdale Christian Academy, continuing her commitment to helping athletes build confidence both on and off the court. Her practices emphasize strong fundamentals, communication, teamwork, and creating an environment where athletes are encouraged to compete, make mistakes, and continue learning.
As a volleyball mom, Jodi has experienced the sport from another perspective. She has helped guide both of her daughters through the collegiate recruiting process, with Gabi Gilbert competing at Wichita State University and Gracie Gilbert continuing her career at Cal State Bakersfield. Those experiences have given her a unique understanding of long-term athlete development and the importance of supporting both athletes and families throughout their volleyball journey.
Jodi believes success isn't measured only by wins and losses. Her goal is to help every athlete leave the gym more confident than when they arrived, equipped with the technical foundation, work ethic, and love for the game that will serve them throughout their volleyball careers.
She is excited to lead 12 APEX and help build the next generation of Arizona Legacy athletes.
