Head Coach | 17 APEX
Ashlynn Medina will lead 17 APEX this season, bringing nearly a decade of club and high school coaching experience, a passion for athlete development, and one of Arizona's strongest developmental résumés to Arizona Legacy. Since beginning her coaching career in 2017, Ashlynn has helped athletes of all ages grow through club volleyball, private training, and high school programs, earning a reputation for building confident, fundamentally sound competitors.
A Colorado native, Ashlynn played both club and varsity volleyball before relocating to Arizona in 2014. She currently serves as the Head Freshman Coach and Varsity Assistant Coach at Sandra Day O'Connor High School, after previously coaching at Pinnacle High School, where she helped guide the program to multiple top-three finishes in Arizona's 6A Conference. Throughout her coaching career, she has qualified five teams to the USA Volleyball Boys Junior National Championship while helping three athletes earn USA Volleyball NTDP selections, reflecting her commitment to long-term athlete development.
At the club level, Ashlynn has coached with Revolution Volleyball Academy, Livewire Volleyball Club, and AZ Kings, leading teams to top finishes at premier events including Big South, Far Westerns, Windy City, MLK, and Festival Fiesta. In her first season with Arizona Legacy, she guided 16 APEX to a Summer NIT Finals appearance, a bronze medal at the Feel the Rush Invitational, and a 5th-place finish at the Chi-Town Challenge, helping establish the program as one of the region's emerging boys clubs.
Beyond coaching, Ashlynn is the Co-Owner of AZ Hype, the official training home of Arizona Legacy Volleyball Academy. Her vision for AZ Hype was to create a facility dedicated to athlete development and providing volleyball players throughout the Valley with a place to train, compete, and grow. That same vision carries into her coaching, where she emphasizes accountability, communication, and creating an environment where athletes are challenged to reach their full potential.
Ashlynn believes great coaching is about more than teaching volleyball. Her goal is to help athletes leave the program with confidence, discipline, and a genuine love for the game while preparing them for success both on and off the court.
